A while back there was Case Madness 4, a PC Club contest for modders. There were some excellent entries and we managed to grab one of the winners for an interview. Support for modding is something that we like to do and if we can, we like to help them out and give them a little publicity. Read on to find out more about Scott Bowers and his project: Tribal Revelation.

Misc: I am your average teenager. I like music, art, and hanging out with friends. I started building PCs when I was 12. Ever since then, I have been fascinated by them. Every mod I do is hand crafted in my garage. They are completely original and are made with your basic home tools.

A while back we promoted the CM4 Contest over at PC Club and now we have one of the winners of the contest here for an interview. A lot of modders don't get half the credit they deserve and are never recognized for their passion and achievements. Therefore we're trying to break the silence and give you some public exposure. We hope you enjoy the interview and would like to thank Scott for his time.

What kind of hobbies do you have besides modding or what do you do with your spare time?

I play the bass guitar, hang out with friends, play PC games, and play airsoft.

What does your family think about modding? More specifically, what do they think of you as a modder?

My family thinks of my modding as an art. They encourage me to do the best work possible just like any other artist.

What got you interested/started in modding?

I modded my first PC in the summer of 2004, when I came across PC Club’s site and saw “CM3”, the 3rd PC Club mod contest. I thought modding would be a great opportunity to combine two of my passions, computers and art.

How long have you been modding? What other kinds of mods have you done?

My first mod was called “1NPH3rN0”. It consisted of simple demel work, wiring, lights, fans, and hand etched flames on the window. I placed 5th in PC Club’s CM3 at the age of only 16. After placing 5th in the contest, I decided to make modding PCs a hobby. Since then, I have modded over 6 computers, including my newest winner, Tribal Revelation.

Do you brainstorm for ideas as to new mods or designs or do you just grab some tools and start carving up your case? If you brainstorm, is there any process, ritual, or special socks you wear to get the creative juices flowing?

Sometimes the ideas for my mods just come to me out of no where. When I am hit by an idea, I quickly grab a sketch book and sketch out what I see in my mind. I always make sure I have some sort of a plan before I start carving up my case, although, sometimes I will completely change my mind about things right in the middle.

Modding has been around for a while, but why do you think it has gained so much steam in the last few years?

I think one of the biggest reasons it has gained so much steam is that the people and organizations of the computer gaming community have sponsored or encouraged modding your pc. If a PC gamer went to a huge LAN party and the guy next to him had a sweet mod, he would probably want one himself.
